Our position

Tinkercad and Onshape run in a browser; light CAD work is possible on a Chromebook. Fusion 360, Blender, DaVinci Resolve, and any serious 3D modeling tool do not. If your program's CAD ambition is 'box with holes in it,' a Chromebook is fine. If it is 'real parts that fit together,' you need a real PC. Plan accordingly.

Reputable sources worth reading before you decide. Labels reflect our honest read of each source's general stance, not direct quotes.

Fusion 360's published system requirements exclude ChromeOS. Blender does not run on ChromeOS either.

Why trust it: Software requirements, not debatable.

Onshape browser-CAD path

Nuanced / mixed

Onshape runs in any browser and is legitimately capable for parametric CAD. For many classroom projects, Onshape on a Chromebook is enough.

Why trust it: Valid middle-ground solution.

Some educators argue Tinkercad-in-browser is the entire CAD progression kids need through middle school. True for many programs.

Why trust it: Age-appropriate framing.
