Our position

A full-temperature hot glue gun runs around 380 degrees F. It will raise a blister on a kid in less than a second. Low-temp guns bond cardboard plenty well, run cooler, and still deserve respect but do not cause second-degree burns on contact.

Reputable sources worth reading before you decide. Labels reflect our honest read of each source's general stance, not direct quotes.

The major glue-gun manufacturers all carry low-temp lines specifically marketed for crafts and kid-friendly use. The existence of the category is the industry's acknowledgement that temperature matters.

Why trust it: Manufacturer, but product category speaks to real demand.

Elmer's and other craft-education brands default to low-temp guns in their published curriculum.

Why trust it: Consumer crafts brand, K-12 focused.

Prop-building community

Nuanced / mixed

Adult prop-builders strongly prefer full-temp guns for bond strength. This is true and also irrelevant to a K-5 classroom.

Why trust it: Adult hobbyist community, context matters.

Hobbyists routinely debate low vs full temp. The bond-strength case for full-temp is real. The burn risk case for kids is also real. Context dependent.

Why trust it: Community discussion, weighted by age of user.
