Our position

SMD reflow with solder paste generates more fumes than standard through-hole work because of the flux load. Every rework bench needs a working fume extractor, every time. Same rule as the basic soldering bench, but with more at stake because the fume volume is higher.

OSHA solder fume guidance

Broadly agrees

OSHA's soldering fume guidance scales with fume volume. Higher-volume work requires proportional extraction.

Why trust it: Regulatory reference.

Solder paste MSDS

Broadly agrees

The MSDS for no-clean solder paste includes respiratory irritant warnings explicit enough that extraction is clearly required.

Why trust it: Material-science documentation.
