Real Fire - Real Metal - Real Tools - Real Blacksmithing
What Students Will Do
- See Metal Heat Up - Watch a nail glow orange-hot in the forge (over 2,000ยฐF!)
- Hammer Hot Metal - Shape the glowing metal by hammering it on an anvil
- Create Their Sword - Transform a simple nail into their own unique tiny sword
- Gear Up Like a Pro - Wear real welding gloves and safety glasses
- Cool It Down - Hear the satisfying "TSSS!" when the hot sword hits water
- Take It Home - Keep the sword they forged themselves!
What Students Will Learn
Simple Physics
Heat makes metal soft and bendable. Cool metal is hard and strong. Students see this happen right in front of them!
Metal Changes Color
Metal glows different colors at different temperatures. Orange = perfect for forging!
Ancient Technology
Blacksmiths have been forging swords and tools this way for over 5,000 years!
Cause & Effect
Every hammer strike changes the shape. Students control how their sword forms!
