The Challenge: Place a marker where you THINK your rocket will land - BEFORE you launch!
Key Rule: You MUST place your marker before launching. No moving it after you set the angle!
The Sequence
1Set angle
→
2Place marker
→
3Launch!
→
4Measure
How to Play
- Set your angle - tell everyone what angle you're using
- Walk out and place your marker (cone, flag, or stake) where you predict landing
- Return to launcher - no adjustments allowed!
- Launch!
- Measure the distance from your marker to actual landing spot
- Smallest prediction error wins!
Game Variants
- Standard: Each player chooses their own angle
- Same Angle: Everyone uses identical settings - pure prediction skill
- Progressive: 3 rounds, change angle each round (30°, 45°, 60°)
- Mystery Angle: Another player sets your angle - can you still predict?
Scoring
- Distance-based: Measure from marker to landing - closest wins
- Points: Within 5 ft = 10 pts, 10 ft = 7 pts, 20 ft = 4 pts, 30 ft = 2 pts
- Perfect Prediction: Landing within arm's reach of marker = bonus +5 pts
Science Connection: This is what physicists and engineers do! They use math to predict where projectiles will land based on angle and velocity. Your brain is doing intuitive physics calculations. With practice, you'll get better at predicting - that's how scientific intuition develops!
