Our position

Verify ESRB rating on every VR title before it goes on a classroom headset. "It is just a game" is not a defense when a parent finds out their 5th grader played a T-rated (or worse) horror or combat title at school.

When in doubt, restrict to explicitly education-labeled content (Merge EDU library, zSpace apps, Nearpod VR, CoSpaces classroom scenes). The broader Quest store has plenty of titles not appropriate for K-8 classroom use.

ESRB rating system

Broadly agrees

ESRB ratings exist precisely so educators and parents can make informed decisions about content. Use them.

Why trust it: Industry-standard rating system.

Common Sense publishes detailed content reviews including age recommendations and specific concerns (violence, language, horror). Useful second-opinion source for VR titles.

Why trust it: Independent educator-focused media review org, no commercial stake.

VR enthusiast media will review titles primarily on quality and fun, with age-appropriateness as a footnote. Useful for informed adults; needs translation for classroom use.

Why trust it: Enthusiast publication, not a classroom-content resource.
A note on honesty: We have no affiliate arrangement with any brand or publication linked here. Labels reflect our honest read of each source's general stance as of this writing; they are not quotes. Click through and form your own view.
