Our position

Do not buy SPRK+ new or used for a first-time classroom purchase. If you already own SPRK+ units that still charge and connect to Sphero Edu, keep using them - they still work.

SPRK+ is the generation before BOLT. Sphero officially discontinued it. Used units on eBay still pair with the current Sphero Edu app, but you are buying into a platform with no new firmware, no replacement parts from the manufacturer, and a smaller sensor suite than BOLT. If the budget is that tight, buy Sphero Mini new at around $50 per unit - same Sphero Edu ecosystem, current hardware, cheaper per seat than used SPRK+.

Reputable sources worth reading before you decide. Labels reflect our honest read of each source's general stance, not direct quotes.

Sphero's own support pages list BOLT and BOLT+ as the current classroom robots. SPRK+ is treated as legacy - still supported, not the recommendation for new purchases.

Why trust it: Vendor's own position on their own product line.

The 16-pack puts Mini at roughly $50 per unit, which beats most used SPRK+ class pack prices on eBay. Same app, current hardware, class-pack pricing.

Why trust it: Vendor product page. Verify the pack-price math on current listings.

Schools still running SPRK+

Nuanced / mixed

A SPRK+ class set that already exists and still charges is useful. The platform is not dead - it is legacy. Keep running what works; do not buy more of it.

Why trust it: Real classroom experience. Keep existing inventory; do not expand.
