Running Sphero class sets without the charging case?
Our position, and other voices worth reading before you decide.
Our position
Do not try. Buy the charging case that comes with the class pack.
Sphero Mini, BOLT, and BOLT+ charge inductively through individual charging bases. One robot on a power strip works fine. Sixteen robots on a power strip trips the breaker, kills the strip, and leaves the class with no robots ready for first period. The charging case is not an upsell - it is the infrastructure that keeps the class set usable.

Sphero Mini Education 16-pack
Broadly agreesSphero sells class packs with the charging hub included because singles-plus-strip does not actually work at scale. The packaging reflects real deployment experience.
Teachers building DIY charging racks
Nuanced / mixedExperienced makerspace teachers have built DIY multi-port USB charging trays that work fine. That is a makerspace project, not a default. Most schools do not have the in-house electronics skills to safely roll their own.
Low-count Sphero owners
Pushes backIf you own 2-3 Spheros total, individual chargers on a power strip are fine. The case is not necessary. This argument disappears above 6 robots.
